MUSIC THEORY CLASSES
KATZMUSIC provides private tuition in music theory for the preparation of AMEB exams as well as jazz music theory classes. Students will be instructed in the prescribed level of music theory. We also provide 10 week music theory courses. Visit the Music Theory Courses page for more information.
THE AMEB
The Australian Music Examinations Board is a national body with the purpose of providing graded assessment of music study. It aims to create a standard of performance and assessment. Students undergoing tuition from KATZMUSIC will qualify to sit AMEB examinations at the given levels of music theory tuition.
Free Assessment Class
1 Hour lessons
A free assessment class is available to new students who contact KATZMUSIC. This is an introduction class to determine the following:
- To find out about you. What are your goals, aims and objectives? Why do you want to take lessons? What is your experience? Where would you like to take your music?
- To find out about about KATZMUSIC. How can KATZMUSIC further your musical experience and knowledge?
- All new students will be required to complete an application form, a technical assessment and a music theory assessment. Vocal students will have a vocal assessment. It doesn't matter what level of technical ability or music theory you have, you may have a lot or just a little but the purpose of the test is to assess your level so that we know where to start, so please don't be intimidated by the idea.

The first class is an assessment and it is usually free of charge.
After that students are required to pay 4 weeks in advance, (special cirrcumstances will be considered). Students who do not wish to pay in advance will be charged at the basic/casual rate. Discounts apply for classes paid in advance so please
check the table above for a detailed account of prices and potential savings.
Prices vary according to the terms of payment. There is a basic rate for all classes, this is the casual classes rate. Casual rates will apply if you
don't wish to pay in advance. Discounts apply for advance payments. For example if you pay 4 weeks in advance for vocal coaching or music theory
one-to-one classes you will receive a saving of $20.00, $75.00 if you pay 10 weeks in advance.
Special consideration including discounted prices are available for people who have special circumstances,

No cancellation fee applies if a short notice cancellation is required. The lesson will be re-scheduled. Students who choose to pay in advance must have the specified number of lessons within that period. If lessons need to be canceled they must be re-scheduled within that time. Every effort will be made by KATZMUSIC to re-schedule lesson when required, if a student cannot reschedule a lesson at any of the times offered by the teacher the fee for that lesson is non-refundable. Fees for classes canceled without proper notice are non-refundable.
Special consideration will be applied for reasonable unforeseen circumstances.
